Carpet
posted by CJ Impaler at 18:01
I'm not updating the Webette for a while. My image host is no longer my image host and I can't be arsed to sort out the ridiculous amount of images urls, the Amazon ads have gone weird and wobbly, I've not added any content for over a year, and I'm doing a nice PHP version of it (number three, each incarnation seems to be taken down by a catastrophic hard disk failure. My carpet got sorted out, BTW.

Carpet Wars
posted by CJ Impaler at 23:56
I am starting to regret being happy about my 'safe' electricity supply. The RCD is still tripping whenever the bathroom and stair lights are swiched on or off (sort it out, Martin Gates Electrical Engineers of Leighton Buzzard) and now the electricity is conspiring with the carpet to kill me. When the electricians did all the underfloor wiring stuff, they ripped the stair carpet but said that they would replace it, so that was all gravy. But they haven't replaced it, it is still here, torn, flopping, stringing, annoying, psychotic. I now have a lovely set of really steep Victorian cottage stylie stairs with a carpet that acts like a trip wire and no light. I have found that this set-up is a really efficient way of decorating the walls with the brown of tea spillage, breaking plates and cups, ripping the bannister off the wall with the force of one fall, and doing painful things to wrists, knees, elbows and backs.

Still waiting for this RCD to get sorted out by Mickey Mouse Martin Gates Electrical Engineers. This could turn into an obsession.

Attack Of The RCD
posted by CJ Impaler at 16:53
So I have this nice RCD thing in my new-fangled fusebox that is meant to save me from evil electricity blasts by tripping the circuit and shutting off everything that is on the RCD side of the box. So why, in the name of Leo Sayer, is it tripping everytime I switch the bathroom or stair lights? The lighting circuit isn't even connected to the RCD so it shouldn't happen. IT IS WRONG. Has the electricity of evil has come back to smite me? Has excessive sugar in tea somehow prevented the lights from being wired up correctly? Is it stupid? Why? Why? Why?

Phantom Menace
posted by CJ Impaler at 22:20
This week I learned that the electricity in this house doesn't have anything personal against me and doesn't really mean it when it tries to kill me with evil electric blasts, which pleased me greatly. Over the past five days, I have mostly been negotiating the chaos and incredible amounts of dust created by three electricians who enjoy lots of sugar in their tea. Such fun. As a result, the house now has wiring, lights, plug sockets and a fusebox that don't date back to the late Triassic period. Best of all, I am no longer used as an earth wire as the fusebox has actually been earthed. How nice. I am pleased.
